Our Work

Having entered painting into a competition run by Young Art Oxford, every Year 3 and 4 child went to see the winning entries on display at the Ashmolean Museum. 7 Northern House pupils were lucky enough to have these displayed. Stanley even received a commenation for the high standard evident in his work!

Upper Key Stage 2 are conducting a local study. In their art lessons they have been studying gargoyles. Using junk modelling and layers of mod-roc they built up and added detail to their very own grotesque faces. Some have a striking resemblance to the children who made them!

Northern House School will be holding a Science Week as part of the National Science and Engineering Week, which takes place every March. The theme for 2013 is ‘Invention and Discovery’.

Science Oxford will be coming into school on Friday 15^th March to provide workshops for the whole school. KS1 will be challenged to design and build a raft, which they will then test to see how many small animals they can fit on it, before it sinks. Lower KS2 and Mr Buckle’s class will be taking part in the Water Cars workshop. They will design and decorate plastic bottle cars, and see how far they can be launched across the playground, using water and compressed air. Upper KS2 will be watching the Fire Show, and finding out what they need for fire, what happens when burning a candle at both ends and other burning questions.

We will also be having a visit from Zoo Lab on Thursday 21^st March. They will be bringing a range of animals into school for us to handle. These might include a snake, tarantula, cockroach, millipede, gecko and lots more!

Throughout the week the children will have the opportunity to carry out science investigations. We will also be holding a whole school Egg Drop Challenge!
